By now we know you all have seen these blue bikes lighting up the streets of NYC. New York City's bicycle sharing program, which is sponsored by Citi Bike and operated by NYC Bike Share, began earlier this summer. The primary purpose behind this program is to provide New Yorkers and visitors an additional fun, efficient, and convenient transportation option for navigating the city. Were here to show you how you can incorporate the Citi Bike with your fun date around NYC.
Summer is not over until the fat lady sings. The MET Opera is taking out summer with a bang during its 10 day outdoor screening of some of its best opera performances. This makes it a perfect date idea. It is a great non-committal way to dip your toe into opera without having to commit to 3 hours....
Afro-Punk is back. The Festival, now in its 9th year, returns Commodore Barry Park in Fort Green Brooklyn this Saturday and Sunday. Festivals such as this make a fantastic date idea. They have all the elements: food, music, shows and all types of fun activities. Although it bills itself as a punk festival, the musical lineup includes some newer rappers like Danny Brown, Mykki Blanco, and Le1f; New Orleans bounce artist Big Freedia, as well as legendary punk bands such as Death, younger punks Trash Talk. Other performers include Chuck D of Public Enemy and DJ Lord performing Fear of a Black Planet, Questlove, Jean Grae, Saul Williams, K-os and many more. Best of all, the festival is free with a RSVP.
You must be thinking how this is possible…and no we are not saying to revert back to your college drinking ways. However a recent study conducted by researchers from the University of Otago in New Zealand found, “A graded association was evident between time spent drinking as a couple and the odds of a couple being happy.”
More than 1,500 couples were surveyed regarding their relationship and drinking habits. According to the study, couples that drank at least a bottle of wine once a week tended to be happier and enjoy marital life more than those who abstained from alcohol. This of courses is music to The Date Valet’s ears!
For all of our soccer fans out there come and join the New York Red Bulls as they host a viewing part next Saturday, August 10th. The New York Red Bulls, currently in 2nd place in the Eastern Conference with 35 points, will be on the road against the Columbus Crew and the game will start at 7:30pm. Come out and support the Red Bulls as they make a push for first place.
The party will begin at 7pm, so please get there early to find a good spot before it gets packed. This will be similar to a picnic so be sure to bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and anything to help you be comfortable. For those of you who are struggling to come up with a date plan this weekend, this would be a great and fun date idea in NYC to do.
The third annual City Streets Festival starts this month. For three consecutive Saturdays in August, nearly seven miles of NYC’s busiest streets will be closed to traffic and opened for people to play, run, walk and bike.
